Our philosophy

InYoga's Teacher Training programs provide complete pathway of training with an integrated approach to yoga practice and philosophy, giving students the tools to make lasting changes in their lives. We draw from the timeless teachings of Ayurveda, Tantra, Hatha and Raja Yoga, and blend this traditional information with Western science and a modern understanding of the human body and energy system.

The modern world is full of stress, and most people will experience stress-related issues at some point in their lives. Many people are actively seeking ways to reduce stress and maintain optimum health that don't involve pills or prescriptions. This is why yoga has reached new heights of popularity in recent years - it's a well known fact that yoga is good for you!

The goal of yoga is simple: to create awareness in our bodies and in our minds that support a natural flow of energy and allow us to reach our fullest potential. We do this by:

  • Nurturing the physical body (our vehicle) through healthy movement practice (yoga asana), balanced breathing (pranayama), nutrition and hydration;
  • Harmonising our mind and body through movement & meditation;
  • Creating better relationships with ourself, others and our natural environment through yogic knowledge.

Yoga is a complete system of wellbeing, and InYoga's Teacher Training programs will inspire you to take charge of your own physical, mental and emotional health through simple yet powerful practices. We acknowledge the traditional roots of yoga, and present the knowledge in an accessible and practical way, allowing you to embark upon your own journey of personal growth.

More than just a teacher training course, this process encourages you to be a living example of health and vitality, and from this solid foundation you will be inspired to share your experiences with others.

Foundational Vinyasa Teacher Training

200-hours

Whether you plan to teach yoga or want to develop your own personal practice, our Foundational Training is the first step towards enhancing your relationship to yoga, and making it an integral part of your life. We believe that yoga is for every body. Our focus is on creating healthy yoga practices that are empowering, rejuvenating and transformative, and you’ll be equipped with the skills to start your teaching journey with confidence and clarity. Completion of this course will give you the ability to create and teach a well rounded and cohesive yoga class with skill, integrity and compassion. You will be able to register with Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200, and with Yoga Australia as a Provisional Member.

Our emphasis is on offering practical and experiential studies that are in rhythm with our individual life situations, so our courses are designed to fit people’s busy schedules. We are pleased to offer two formats for the 200-hour Foundational Training:

The Full Time course is a month-long immersion into yogic lifestyle and studies. Ideal for those who enjoy an accelerated learning environment, this four-week program is offered face-to-face with our highly experienced teacher trainers at our purpose-built training centre in Surry Hills.  We place great value on cultivating the teacher-student relationship during this formative training, and all of our trainees are personally guided by Nicole and Rod, and also receive the support of our studio teachers and assistants.  The Full Time course format requires pre-reading of two specially selected text books, and a short written assignment needs to be handed in after the course in order to receive a teacher training certificate.

The Part Time course is delivered over a three-month period, commencing with an eight-day residential retreat in a beautiful bushland setting, followed by seven weekend immersions. This option makes the course accessible to those who have non-negotiable career, study or family commitments; or who prefer to absorb and integrate the study material over a longer period of time.

350/500 Pathways - 50hr Modules

Upon graduating from our 200-hour teacher training (or a 200-hour training with another school), we offer an accessible schedule of 50-hour modules to continue your training, deepen your knowledge and grow your skills. Ongoing study is essential to your development as a teacher, and our commitment is to equip you with everything you need to keep evolving in your teaching.

We’ve identified key areas that you will have likely touched upon in your 200-hour training, that are ripe for exploring with more depth and breadth. Around these key areas, we’ve created six individual 50-hour modules that offer a technical, practical and inspirational framework so that you may address your students’ needs in class, feel confident in the knowledge you are offering, live in the wisdom of yoga, and stay on top of your own personal growth and self-care.

Each of these modules is completely self-contained (ie there are no prerequisites other than a 200-hour training), as well as being completely integrated with all our other modules which, when combined, serve as a rich tapestry of practical tools, yogic wisdom and heartfelt inspiration. You may take the modules in any order, and over the period of 12, 18 or 24 months, or longer if you wish!

Each module is offered over five full days, and each one is held twice per year. Please check the website for dates and details, as some of them are offered as residential retreats and include accommodation and meals, while others are 'urban retreats', held in our studio.

Advanced Teaching Modules

  • Alignment, Assisting & Anatomy
  • The Art of Sequencing
  • Meditation Teacher Training - The Subtle Arts

Alignment, Assisting & Anatomy - 50 hr Module

This in-depth journey into finding the anatomical and energetic intelligence in your students bodies will give you the knowledge and skills to use hands-on enhancements and assists to help students refine their understanding and practice of yoga asanas. A skilful hands-on assist is an exceptional teaching tool, and can be transformational and empowering for your students.

A good foundation in Anatomy is essential for yoga teachers to keep students safe, prevent injuries and deal with common anatomical and physiological issues that can often present in yoga classes. We'll move towards a deeper understanding of the human body through the structural alignment of the musculoskeletal system and the effect of yoga practice on the body.

What you'll learn

  • Energetic and structural alignment - understand movements of energy through the body and how the key actions of any asana  are enhanced by this knowledge.
  • How to see people’s bodies rather than just poses - techniques of observation so you know who, when and how to assist.
  • How to cultivate trust and connection - techniques to connect to a student prior to offering a hands-on assist.
  • The principles of assisting and adjusting - how to be clear about your intention, and adjust with clarity and purpose.
  • How to help support, stabilise, awaken and deepen your students’ practice through different types of touch.

Meditation Teacher Training - 50 hr Module

The Subtle Arts of Yoga

Meditation and the art of Mudra, Pranayama and Mantra cultivates a quality of attention, curiosity and wonder that can transform a yoga practice and your life.

In this course you will learn the wisdom and skills to guide your student’s awareness through the 'koshas', or the layers of one's being from gross to subtle.   These layers of our being have an innate ability to find a healthy balance and harmony. However our modern lives can disconnect our awareness from these natural instincts, creating blockages to natural health and wellbeing.

The subtle arts of yoga refine our skill in accessing our body’s natural instincts and expressions in finding health and vitality. You will discover how to weave these elements through a yoga class, allowing students to become awakened to the full potential of yoga. Helping to guide your students in a natural, life-affirming approach to meditation is a wonderful gift, whether you aim to teach meditation as part of an asana class, or in dedicated meditation sessions.

What you'll learn

  • The language and presence to guide meditation instinctively and effortlessly.
  • Timeless meditation practices from the yoga tradition.
  • The science behind how and why these meditation practices work.
  • Skills to awaken natural instincts as doorways to effortless meditation.
  • How to create and hold the space for a truly relaxing and restorative savasana.

Language, Theming & Philosophy - 50 hr Module

THE ART OF AWAKENED TEACHING

As yoga teachers we are essentially communicators or guides to an experience that is often beyond words. Because of this, it's sometimes challenging to find the right words to express the desired sentiment when you're teaching a yoga class.  Learn to teach skilfully by weaving your own personal experience of yoga, with the wisdom that flows from the practices and language of self-inquiry. This dynamic combination of elements results in a class that involves much more than the technical instruction of asana.  In this practical course, delve into the art of essential language to inspire and uplift your students.

Artfully link together anatomical awareness and yoga philosophy in a way that speaks to your students’ bodies, hearts and minds.  Develop your own unique language and teaching style that offer students the exploration of yoga asana through form, function and feeling.

What you'll learn

  • Develop your own unique language and teaching style that offerS students the exploration of yoga asana through form, function and feeling.
  • Learn to layer your teaching instructions with clear and relevant anatomical detail, while sharing your understanding of the benefits of the asana.
  • Discover ways to speak directly and succinctly, using essential language cues.
  • Learn the language of self-inquiry that will allow your students to delve into their own unique experience of yoga.
  • Create your own language style that is inspiring and heartfelt, so you connect to your students' hearts and minds.
  • Weave yoga philosophy into your classes in relevant, inspiring ways

Meditation Teacher Training with Dr Lorin Roche and Camille Maurine - 40-hour Module

You are invited to participate in this in-depth training with global leaders in the field of meditation, Dr Lorin Roche and Camille Maurine (USA). This training is specifically designed for yoga teachers to discover valuable tools and techniques to incorporate meditation into their yoga teaching, or use it as a stand alone modality to enhance the wellbeing of their students.

Meditation has become mainstream in our western culture, with millions of people practicing some form of meditation daily.  It's now well-known in the scientific and medical worlds that meditation is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, for people to feel less stressed and more connected to what's important in life.

"In the modern West, there is a revolution underway, an awakening, such that yoga and meditation have become completely mainstream.  The challenge now is to train enough meditation teachers to meet the need. It will be decades before there are enough skilled meditation teachers. Let's get to work."
~ Lorin Roche

What you'll learn

  • The science and practice of meditation - meditation is a completely natural and instinctive capacity that every human has - understanding the body's innate regulatory function of rest and renewal is key.
  • Recognizing spontaneity and rhythm - we all experience spontaneous meditative states, and a skilled meditation teacher will learn how to cooperate with their student's inner nature.
  • The subtle senses - develop the ability to recognise and utilise the five senses as gateways into meditation
  • Instinctive wisdom - recognising and honouring our powerful and innate wisdom for self-healing and self-evolving
  • The five elements - meditation teachers need to be intimate with the five elements (Tattvas) of earth, water, fire, air and ether, as revealed by the five senses.
  • Mandala of emotions - understand the full spectrum of emotions that make up a large part of everyone's meditative experience - one of the biggest challenges meditators face.
  • Language and listening skills - meditation teachers need a new language to guide students into their inner world, and also require skills for effective communication and listening to their students' experience.
  • Meditation techniques - there are literally thousands of techniques of meditation, and skill is required to find the right technique to suit individuals. The Radiance Sutras presents 112 different doorways into meditation to help you guide students to find what they love about meditation, and dive in.
  • Meditation secrets for women - as women make up around 70% of yoga and meditation students, learning to vary your approach for teaching meditation to women will open up doorways to a radical understanding of how to relate to female students.  Presented by Camille Maurine.
  • The opportunity to meditate daily with acclaimed meditation teachers and authors, Dr Lorin Roche and Camille Maurine
  • Daily morning asana practice to integrate asana and meditation
